What is Ballet?

Little girls performing Ballet

Ballet is essentially the basics of dance. No matter what type of dance you’re interested in, you’ll find the basics of ballet incorporated into it in some way. Not only that, the techniques learned from it end up being very helpful later on in life, whether you’re doing daily activities or playing a sport, as you’ll have gained better flexibility and body awareness.

What is Hip Hop?

Kids performing hip hop

Where Ballet teaches discipline and dedication, hip hop is a freestyle dance. It’s a way for children to express themselves on the dance floor and build their confidence. It also helps them improve their rhythm in music, alongside memorizing their dance moves.

What is Tap?

Kids performing tap

Tap is an energetic dance style that helps to improve the rhythm and timing of the dance. As it is dancing strictly with the feet, children must learn to sync the movements to the beat of the music, and as a result, they learn better coordination. It’s also great for children that have a deep love of music.

What is Jazz?

Kids performing tap

Jazz is a high-energetic dance style, using a combination of ballet and hip hop. As a result, children learn multiple dance techniques and have a deeper understanding of them. Similar to Ballet, children gain better coordination and flexibility. While similar to Hip hop, children gain more confidence and the chance to express themselves.

How to pick?

When deciding which dance is for your child, it’s vital to take their personality into consideration. If they love structure, grace, and are dedicated, then Ballet may be right for them. Or, maybe they love upbeat music and the chance to express themselves, in that case Hip hop would be the right fit. On the other hand, if they love making music with their feet, then Tap is for them. While Jazz lovers, similar to hip hop, love upbeat music and expressing themselves.
